Dr. Jeremy P. Mondejar of Cebu Technological University-Barili Campus, led a soil sampling workshop with the Municipal Agriculturist and agricultural technicians of the Municipality of Sogod, Cebu, on February 13.
The workshop was designed to train municipal agriculture personnel of Sogod, Cebu, in the practical application of Predictive Digital Soil Mapping (PDSM) using high-resolution geospatial data. With this initiative, the local government will have the capacity to independently generate, interpret, and apply digital soil information for farming applications and evidence-based land-use planning.
PDSM is a modern mapping method that uses machine learning, geostatistics, and satellite-based environmental data to predict soil properties across an area without extensive field sampling.
CTU, led by Dr. Mondejar, serves as the local technical lead, helping local government units strengthen their capacity for digital soil mapping and support sustainable agricultural development.
Dr. Mondejar is the director of Research and Development at the CTU Barili campus and a faculty member in the Institute of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering./ICPA Barili
