CTU synchronizes innovation engine to accelerate lab to market success

Cebu Technological University (CTU) has taken steps to streamline the transition of academic research into commercial application by convening a coordination meeting on February 19 at the CTU Main Campus.

The initiative aims to break down administrative barriers and harmonize CTU’s innovation, intellectual property, and commercialization hubs to create an efficient system that leverages research outputs to fuel the national economy.

Acting under Memorandum No. PB12‑054, s. 2026, the activity convened key stakeholders to clarify institutional mandates and fortify inter-office collaboration.

Leaders of five critical university units delivered detailed presentations on their current functions. The Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management (IPTBM) and the Knowledge and Technology Transfer Office (KTTO) were outlined by Engr. Naomi A. Bajao, University Director for IPTBM. Meanwhile, the Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO) discussion was led by Dr. Juvy Malonjao, ITSO Manager.

The Technology Business Incubator (TBI) session was handled by Dr. Mario Rebuccas Jr., TBI Chairperson, while ATBI Manager Siegfried D. Mendoza presented the Agri‑Aqua Technology Business Incubator (ATBI). Finally, Dr. Lolita Velita centered her presentation on the Production, Extension, and Resource Generation (PERG) and Production and Resource Generation (PRG) units.

University leaders focused on three objectives: eliminating overlap to avoid stalled projects, mapping a roadmap from protection to market entry, and establishing unified governance with timelines across campuses.

The endeavor further reflected a system‑wide commitment to institutional growth, underscored by the presence of Dr. Pet Roey L. Pascual, Vice President for Research and Development, and Dr. Rosein A. Ancheta Jr., Vice President for PERG. This initiative ensures the institutional breakthroughs are backed and directed toward community benefit and real‑world impact.

By integrating these functions, CTU amplifies its role in the regional innovation ecosystem, advancing its drive to serve not only as an educational hub but also as a launchpad for Filipino technologies and enterprises.
