Editors-in-chief (EICs) and advisers from twelve Cebu Technological University (CTU) student publications convened on Monday, March 9, for collaborative talks aimed at advancing campus journalism and charting a shared direction for the student press.
Student publications from across CTU joined the gathering, including The Nation Builder (Main), The Farm (Barili), The Aquarian (Carmen), Ang Sarok (Consolacion), The Modern Fisher (Daanbantayan), The Working Hand (Danao), The Southern Beacon (Dumanjug), Ang Taga (Moalboal), The Southern Harvest (San Fernando), The Island Fisher (San Francisco), Technological Tribune (Tabogon), and Polytechnic Bulletin (Tuburan).
During the discussions, Prof. Eva Jonah Mari H. Enojas, OIC-University Director for Student Media and Publications, stressed the urgency of crafting a unified Student Publication University Manual to help harmonize campus journalism practices across CTU.
Meanwhile, Prof. Junas D. Flores, OIC-University Director for Information, Communication, and Public Affairs (ICPA), underscored the importance of ethical communication and proper coordination in the dissemination of information, encouraging student publications to follow university guidelines while upholding press freedom.
The meeting also served as a platform to address pressing concerns, train student journalists, recognize their contributions, and foster collaboration through the proposed formation of a federation of CTU student publications.
CTU’s efforts to strengthen collaboration among its student publications signal a step forward in promoting a more coordinated and dynamic campus press across its campuses.
