Gearing up women with appropriate measures for disaster response, Cebu Technological University—Main Campus conducts a disaster preparedness and response training for women employees and students as part of its Women’s Month celebration, equipping participants with essential first-aid and emergency response skills.
Held at the CTU Gymnatorium, the event titled “Empowering Women in Disaster Response” was organized through the collaboration of the CTU–Main Campus Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office–Quick Response Team (DRRM-QRT), the Gender and Development (GAD) office, and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP). It carried the theme “Paglig-on sa kababayen-an pinaagi sa First Aid ug Disaster Preparedness Awareness.”
The program featured a series of sessions led by fire safety officers: “The Gendered Face of Disaster” and “Hands-on Survival Skills,” both delivered by Fire Officer 1 Annjayla Bofel R. Piquero-Cadero, and “The ‘Go-Bag’ for Her and the Family” by Fire Officer 2 Lovelyn A. Francisco.
The event emphasized women’s leadership in saving lives, curation of emergency kits, practical responses like rendering basic first aid for both adults and children, operating a fire extinguisher, and observing the “drop, cover, hold” during earthquakes.
The initiative highlights CTU’s commitment to strengthening women’s capacity to respond effectively during emergencies and to promoting their role in community resilience and disaster preparedness./Faith Hyacinth L. Pacquiao, CTU Main-BAL Intern
