Cebu Governor Pamela S. Baricuatro expressed full support for the climate action sustainability initiative during the Cebu Climate Adaptation Summit held at Cebu Technological University–Main Campus, emphasizing the importance of strengthening local efforts to address climate threats and advance the Philippines’ National Adaptation Plan (2023–2050).
Highlighting Cebu’s role in the national climate agenda, Governor Baricuatro stressed the province’s responsibility to balance economic progress with environmental accountability.
“It is both an honor and a responsibility for Cebu to be part of this important conversation on climate action. As one of the country’s key economic hubs, we recognize that growth must come with accountability, especially to our environment and to future generations,” Gov. Baricuatro expressed.
She further emphasized Cebu’s strong commitment to environmental governance, citing the milestone of its first inter-LGU and multisectoral environmental summit held last Thursday, March 19.
“Our provincial government took a significant step forward as we convened Cebu’s very first inter-LGU and multisectoral environmental summit, bringing together local governments, national agencies, and private sector partners to address one of our most urgent challenges: waste management,” she said.
“We also launched the ‘Clean Cebu Campaign,’ a call for every Cebuano to take part in protecting our environment in our own simple but meaningful ways—because real change happens when everyone chooses to be part of the solution,” she added.
Following her address, she administered the Panunumpa sa Tungkulin of the Climate Change Task Force on Monday, March 23, underscoring the task force’s mandate to address pressing environmental challenges and reaffirm Cebu’s commitment to climate resilience and sustainability.
The three-day Cebu Climate Adaptation Summit forms part of the National Adaptation Plan initiatives led by the Climate Change Commission (CCC) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), in collaboration with government agencies, experts, and development partners.
