CTU conducts CDIO Strategic Planning for CY-2026

Cebu Technological University (CTU) conducted its CDIO Strategic Planning for Calendar Year 2026 from March 25 to 27 at a hotel in Mandaue City, bringing together key officials and faculty members to align institutional initiatives with global standards.

The three-day activity focused on reviewing, enhancing, and aligning the university’s programs with the CDIO (Conceive–Design–Implement–Operate) framework to strengthen academic excellence and global competitiveness.

Dr. Reylan G. Capuno, Vice President for Academic Affairs, emphasized during his opening remarks the importance of strategic planning in strengthening innovation, quality education, and outcomes-based learning. He also highlighted the need to continue investing in faculty development despite austerity measures, stressing that human capital remains a priority.

Dr. Ve Leslie E. Atanoza, CDIO University Director, presented the rationale of the activity, underscoring the role of the CDIO framework in transforming engineering and technology education and fostering holistic student development. He noted the need to revisit and refine strategies to respond to evolving industry demands and global educational standards.

A session on the 12 CDIO Standards in Engineering and Technology Education was conducted by the CDIO Project Management Team composed of Dr. Teresita B. Capin, Engr. Al Emmanuel Caballes, and Engr. Delfa G. Castilla, along with  CDIO Champions: Dr. Mark Paul Lim, Engr. Benjamin Rubin, and Engr. Lomera Niñame Cañas. The discussion provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of the standards and their practical applications.

In the same session, Dr. Eingilbert Benolirao discussed generative AI tools and models for productivity and research, highlighting their relevance and integration into teaching, learning, and research initiatives.

The activity also highlighted CDIO international engagements, including participation in Liverpool, United Kingdom, and Kazakhstan, which provided insights into global best practices and collaboration opportunities. 

Dr. Rhodora G. Magan, University Director for Internationalization and ASEAN Integration, emphasized the importance of global partnerships, mobility programs, and the alignment of institutional initiatives with international benchmarks. She also shared ongoing communication with CDIO Co-Founders in Sweden to strengthen collaboration and knowledge exchange.

The program featured a caselet presentation by Engr. Aileen A. Sierras, Co-Leader of CDIO Asia, focusing on the practical application of CDIO principles. Participants were encouraged to analyze challenges, share experiences, and propose innovative solutions for their respective programs.
