To address the pressing need for space‑efficient composting strategies in urban communities, Cebu Technological University (CTU) conducted a ‘Training of Trainers on Microbial Composting’ on June 25 at CTU Barili Campus.
Led by Dr. Danny E. Carabio, organic agriculture specialist at CTU Barili, the training equipped CTU’s community extension trainers with practical skills in home‑based microbial composting technology, underscoring its impact on sustainable waste solutions and urban agriculture.
Microbial composting will be integrated into CTU’s extension program “Food Waste Reduction Towards Sustainable Consumption: A Carbon Literacy Program in Brgy. Tisa, Cebu City – Phase 2.”
The community extension program is a collaboration between CTU Main’s College of Arts and Sciences and CTU Barili’s College of Agriculture, Food Science, Agribusiness, and Development Communication.
Microbial composting is a sustainable technology that uses beneficial microorganisms to turn organic waste into nutrient‑rich compost, offering urban communities a fast, space‑saving, and eco‑friendly solution.
The initiative boosts CTU’s ongoing efforts to advance sustainable waste practices and foster community empowerment.
