The Department of Environment and Natural Resources–Environmental Management Bureau Region VII (DENR-EMB 7), in partnership with Cebu Technological University (CTU) Main Campus, conducted a Seminar-Workshop on Environmental Management for Young Professionals on June 16, 2026, to strengthen environmental awareness and compliance among university personnel.
The activity gathered young professionals, department heads, and faculty members at CTU Main Campus to enhance their knowledge and capacity in environmental management, sustainability, and environmental laws.
In his opening remarks, DENR-EMB 7 Regional Director Atty. John Edward T. Ang emphasized the importance of collaboration between environmental agencies and academic institutions in addressing environmental challenges.
“True environmental stewardship requires an ecosystem of its own—one that involves policy, enforcement, and the crucial spark of education and innovation,” Ang said.
He also reaffirmed DENR-EMB 7’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with CTU through Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) initiatives aimed at empowering young people to become environmental advocates in their communities.
Meanwhile, CTU Main Campus Director Dr. Gregorio P. Pajaron Jr. expressed support for the initiative and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to promoting sustainable and environmentally responsible practices.
The seminar featured discussions on key environmental laws and sustainability initiatives. Engr. Cindlyn Pepito-Ochea discussed the mandates of DENR-EMB and the Philippine Clean Water Act of 2004, emphasizing the protection of water resources and environmental responsibility.
Mr. Ivan Dale Georsua presented the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000, highlighting proper waste management practices and the role of individuals and institutions in reducing environmental impacts.
Meanwhile, Ms. Mary Joy B. Molina discussed the Climate Change Act of 2009, while Ms. Ma. Fatima S. Raboy led a session on adopting a plastic-free lifestyle and sustainable daily practices.
Participants also took part in interactive activities, including an Envi-Quiz Bowl and a Waste Segregation Workshop, allowing them to apply the concepts discussed during the seminar.
The event also recognized the contributions of Dr. Ve Leslie E. Atanoza, Pollution Control Officer of CTU Main Campus, whose efforts supported the successful implementation of the activity.
Initiated by DENR-EMB 7 and supported by CTU Main Campus, the seminar-workshop reinforced environmental awareness among participants and highlighted the value of collaboration in promoting sustainable campuses and communities.
