Cebu Technological University (CTU) has secured four slots under the 2026–2027 Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development-Phase 2 (SEED-2) Program, with one undergraduate awardee making history.
Following results on June 13th, CTU Argao’s environmental science student Rona Jean Muñoz has become CTU’s first undergraduate recipient of the scholarship since 2015. Co-recipients included Dr. Robert Jay Angco (Main), Romelito Bayno Jr. (Danao), and Rachelle Sabella (Argao).
They are flying out the country in September for the semester-long research internship at Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) in Canada, CTU’s long-time ally.
Each scholar will receive a grant worth C$10,200 (approximately ₱420,000) for visa processing fees, round-trip international airfare, health insurance, accommodation, utilities, meals, domestic transportation, books, academic supplies, and other living and study-related expenses throughout their stay at UQAM.
Behind the scholarship bid is nearly a year of preparation that began in September. Securing a faculty supervisor from the host university is a prerequisite that often determines whether an application advances to the final evaluation stage. Funded by the Canadian government, the program primarily supports innovation, research collaboration, and institutional partnerships among higher education institutions across ASEAN and Canada.
The latest achievement demonstrates how scholars from multiple campuses— Main, Danao, and Argao—are increasingly gaining access to globally competitive opportunities and advancing CTU’s presence within the international academic community. Previous cohorts included those from Tuburan and Barili.
