Cebu Technological University (CTU) Professor Cecilio Baga carried his ideas on the intersectionality of artificial intelligence and climate change into the Global Sustainable Development Congress (GSDC) at Indonesia’s capital, where hundreds gathered to take part in the 4-day event this week.
Representing the University as a conference speaker at the Times Higher Education (THE) platform, Dr. Baga visibilized the institution’s take on mitigating the tension between technology and the environment.
Latching on to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the College of Technology academic contributed to the conversation the role of higher education in addressing contemporary challenges and promoting ‘green’ development, particularly in Cebu where more than 20 CTU campuses sprawl.
The panel also featured other distinguished international academics, including Dr. Iwan Adhicandra of Bakrie University, Indonesia, and Associate Professor Alexandra Okada of The Open University, United Kingdom.
They further interrogated considerations surrounding ethics, governance, equity, and the collaborative role of universities, governments, and technology sectors in developing innovative and accessible AI-driven solutions.
The SUC leveling director clinched the discussion and complimented his years of service at the University, as a climate change advocate himself, with a global perspective conveyed to various entities in attendance./IAI
