To cultivate transformative academic practices and results‑driven learning through the Conceive–Design–Implement–Operate (CDIO) framework, the Cebu Technological University (CTU) CDIO Program Management Team (PMT) led a two-day CDIO Seminar-Workshop at Bohol Northern Star College (BNSC), Ubay, Bohol, on June 18–19.
Topics ranged from curriculum development (CDIO skillset) and active learning to faculty development, assessment, and continuous quality improvement. Participants engaged in interactive workshops, gaining practical insights on integrating CDIO principles into academic programs to enhance student learning outcomes.
The two-day workshop centered on the twelve CDIO Standards: The Context; Learning Outcomes; Integrated Curriculum; Introduction to Engineering; Design-Implement Experiences; Engineering Workspaces; Integrated Learning Experiences; Active Learning; Enhancement of Faculty Competence; Enhancement of Faculty Teaching Competence; Learning Assessment; and Program Evaluation.
CTU resource speakers expounded on the twelve CDIO Standards, with Dr. Ve Leslie E. Atanoza (Standards 1–3), Engr. Al Emmanuel L. Caballes (Standards 4–6), Engr. Teresita B. Capin (Standards 7–9), and Engr. Lomera Niname J. Cañas (Standards 10–12).
Faculty members and academic leaders of BNSC participated in the sessions led by Vice President for Academic Affairs Elvie G. Ranollo and Dr. Maria Elena A. Aparente, Dean of the College of Technology. Both underscored the importance of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement in higher education.
The workshop deepened participants’ understanding of the CDIO Framework, underscored its relevance as a benchmark for engineering education, and highlighted CTU’s proactive role in sharing integration practices with partner institutions.
