The Philippine Association of Research Managers Inc. (PHILARM) Central Visayas Chapter convened researchers, faculty members, and scholars from across the region during the Research Ethics Assembly 2026 on July 23 at the Cebu Technological University (CTU)–Main Campus Gymnatorium, advancing discussions on ethical research and responsible innovation.
The assembly was spearheaded by the PHILARM Region VII under the leadership of Dr. Sunliegh Gador, a CTU faculty member who serves as the chapter president, with the support of CTU officials, faculty members, and researchers who actively participated in the regional gathering.
Anchored on the theme, “Advancing Knowledge Through Ethical Inquiry and Responsible Research,” the full-day assembly also welcomed participants and distinguished resource speakers via Zoom, expanding its reach and reinforcing collaboration among higher education institutions throughout Central Visayas.
The gathering underscored a shared commitment to ensuring that scientific advancement is driven not only by discovery but also by integrity, accountability, and public trust.
The program formally opened with preliminary ceremonies led by Dr. Rowena P. Datoon, Vice President of the PHILARM Region VII and Campus Director of CTU Daanbantayan Campus.
It is followed by an inspirational address from Dr. Diosdado P. Zulueta, National President of PHILARM, who emphasized the critical role of ethical leadership in shaping the future of Philippine research.
Participants were also oriented by Dr. Richard E. Amansec, National Board Secretary and Membership Committee Chair, on PHILARM’s history, organizational mission, membership guidelines, and upcoming national initiatives, laying the foundation for the discussions that followed.
The assembly also recognized the officers of the PHILARM-VII Chapter, highlighting the strong representation of CTU. Alongside Chapter President Dr. Sunliegh Gador and Vice President Dr. Rowena P. Datoon, other CTU faculty introduced were Dr. Michelle P. Trangia (Secretary), Dr. Lelanie S. Cordero(Treasurer), Dr. Alita S. Labiaga and Dr. Alma D. Agero (Business Managers), Dr. Juvy B. Maloniao (Auditor), Prof. Junas Flores and Dr. Reah G. Fabrica (Public Information Officers), with Dr. Adrian P. Ybañez serving as Honorary Adviser.
The highlight of the assembly was the keynote lecture by Dr. Michelle Trangia, who delivered an insightful lecture on the ethics of research, highlighting the principles that safeguard academic integrity, protect research participants, and uphold the credibility of scientific inquiry.
In his message, Dr. Pet Roey L. Pascual, CTU Vice President for Research and Development, reaffirmed the University’s commitment to promoting excellence, integrity, and accountability in research.
As the country’s leading professional organization for research managers, PHILARM champions research management through capacity building, policy advocacy, professional development, and institutional collaboration across the Philippines and the Asia-Pacific region.
By serving as the venue for the PHILARM Region VII Research Ethics Assembly 2026 and through the active involvement of its faculty, administrators, and research leaders, CTU reaffirmed its commitment to advancing ethical research, fostering regional collaboration, and supporting initiatives that strengthen research integrity across Central Visayas.
