CTU Main-Guidance Office boosts mental health advocacy, student well‑being

Advancing the vital role of mental health advocacy through suicide‑prevention awareness, the Guidance Services Center– Day Program at Cebu Technological University-Main Campus conducted a general orientation for first-year students of the College of Engineering (COE) and the College of Management and Entrepreneurship (CME) on Tuesday afternoon, August 18.

In collaboration with the Student Affairs and Services (SAS), the program oriented freshmen on the University’s guidance services while underscoring the importance of mental health advocacy through suicide‑prevention awareness among students.

The event, titled “Guided to Thrive: Getting to Know the Guidance Services” and “Race to Save Lives: Empowering Minds Through Suicide Awareness and Prevention,” sought to promote mental health advocacy and support freshmen in their transition into college life with resilience, awareness, and purpose.

SAS Dean Arch. Ann Frances P. Cabigon and Campus Director Dr. Gregorio P. Pajaron Jr. warmly welcomed the freshmen, encouraging them to pursue academic excellence while nurturing their holistic well‑being.

Equally vital to students’ well‑being were the discussions on suicide awareness and prevention, presented by Guidance Counselor Dr. Jerame R. Nacua, Guidance Associate Ms. Pearl Jane Bongcales, and Guidance Intern Kim Michelle Manatas.

The orientation reminded students to balance their studies with active care for their mental health, reinforcing the University’s mission to nurture resilient, compassionate, and empowered individuals ready to thrive in their college life./Cheryl Rose Alojacin, BSFIL Intern
