To strengthen and align its Board‑approved Intellectual Property (IP) Policy with national standards, Cebu Technological University’s Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management (IPTBM) team, under the Office of the Vice President for Research and Development, joined a three‑day IPOPHL–DOST training workshop held on July 29–31 at the Department of Science and Technology Region VII compound in Cebu City.
Facilitated by experts from the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines, the workshop equipped participants with the technical skills and specialized knowledge needed to draft and refine their IP policies.
These policies will subsequently undergo endorsement by both DOST and IPOPHL before being submitted to the approving authorities of the higher education institutions (HEIs)—such as the Board of Regents in the case of CTU—for formal adoption.
CTU already has a BOR-approved IP Policy, but urgent updates are needed to keep pace with rapidly evolving innovation and IP protections.
Joining fellow public and private HEIs across Cebu, Bohol, and Negros Oriental, CTU was represented by IPTBM University Director Dr. Naomi A. Bajao, ITSO Director Juvy Malonjao, ATBI Chair Siegfried D. Mendoza, and former ITSO Director Ray Malonjao.
Current challenges in intellectual property policy center on the effective implementation of technology transfer and commercialization policies, designed to harness university research for wealth creation and to create meaningful community outcomes.
CTU‑IPTBM’s presence at the IPOPHL–DOST workshop signaled the University’s drive to reinforce IP stewardship, align innovation with national directives, and channel research gains into concrete societal value.
