CTU marks International Week of Deaf People, Day of Sign Languages

Cebu Technological University (CTU)-Main Campus marked the International Week of Deaf People and International Day of Sign Languages on Sept. 24, highlighting the importance of awareness, inclusion, and equal participation of the Deaf community.

With the theme, “Declaring Deaf People’s Human Rights,” the celebration underscored the university’s commitment to promoting inclusivity and accessibility in the academic community.

The event opened with a parade at the CTU Main Grounds, joined by students from the Bachelor of Special Needs Education (BSNED) and Certificate of Technology in Special Education (CT-SPED).

The Students’ Association for Special Education (SAFSE), under the Office of Student Affairs and Services (SAS), facilitated the event. The office is headed by OIC Dean Arch. Ann Frances P. Cabigon.

The celebration was originally scheduled for Sept. 21 but was moved to Sept. 24 following the suspension of face-to-face classes due to haze in the city.

The activity also sought to promote awareness and appreciation of sign language as an important means of communication and a tool for fostering inclusion within the university community.
