Dr. Januario L. Flores Jr. is one of the nine campus directors of the Cebu Technological University—the Premier University. Since his appointment [2015], Dr. Flores has been a prolific model in addressing numerous concerns especially in the Main Campus where he spends quality time with about 15,000 students.
Academic Pursuits
Born on February 26, 1965 in Cebu City, he has now lived 51 years with many accomplishments. A native of Danao, Dr. Flores began his illustrious career with unquestionable devotion to the academe as he finished the secondary level in Cebu City National Science High School in 1981; earned college degree, B.S. Electronics and Communications Engineering at the University of San Carlos in 1986; attained Master of Arts in Education in 1997 and Bachelor of Laws in Southwestern University in 2007.
More interest is vested upon nurturing excellence as he availed of the AusAID-Sponsored, Competitive Scholarship spent at Curtin University of Technology in Perth, Australia for his Graduate Diploma in Computing which he completed in 1998. The momentum continued as he attended University of San Jose-Recoletos for his Doctor in Management, which earned him 12 units from 2001 to 2002. Persistent to pursue another degree instead, he went back to Southwestern University where he fulfilled Doctor of Education major in Educational Management in 2013.
Decisive Roles
Apart from being the Campus Director, he also served as Associate Dean in the College of Engineering from 2012 to 2015; Chairman in the Electronics Engineering Department from 2010 to 2012; another reappointment as Chairman in 2012; Chairman in the Engineering Department, CITE, from 2001 to 2002 ; a Faculty Member in the Graduate School from 2013 to present; Associate Professor V from 2008 to present; Associate Professor II from February to December of 2007; Assistant Professor II from 2000 to 2007; Assistant Professor 1 from 1997 to 2000 and Instructor I from 1993 to 1997.
As a member in the Bids and Awards Committee of Cebu State College of Science and Technology (former name of CTU) from 2006 to 2008, he showed his sensitivity to one of the crucial aspects of administration—the procurement mechanism.
He has also served as a faculty member in the Graduate School of Southwestern University , specifically teaching courses in the Master of Arts in Teaching Computer Science program from 1999 to 2005. He was also a member of the Regional Quality Assessment Team (RQAT) for Engineering Curricula of Commission on Higher Education, Region VII from 2001 to 2003. Lastly, he exposed himself to the industry as the Production Engineer at Cebu Mitsumi, Inc. in Danao City from 1989 to 1992.
Student Support
Ensuring the efficiency of operations at hand boils down to how much is given to the students being one of the major stakeholders; hence, his assistance provided to them is manifested in being the adviser to the student coalitions: Supreme Student Council-CTU Main Campus from 2009 to 2010; and Federation of Student Councils and Leaders-CTU from 2009 to 2010.
Eligibilities and Awards
The credibility his portfolio offers is supported by the government examinations he passed: Career Service Professional Examination in 1987; Electronics and Communications Engineering Licensure Examination in 1989; Local Scholarship Program Qualifying Examination instituted by the Civil Service Commission in 1996 which earned him 2nd place in the entire Region VII and the Professional Board Examination for Teachers in 2000.
His consistent display of excellence goes with his being the recipient of other awards as: the Presidential Citation for Meritorious Service to Cebu State College of Science and Technology in 2007; Bronze Service Award granted by Cebu State College of Science and Technology in 2003; and Silver Service Award granted by CTU in 2013.
Research, Extension and Trainings
His involvement in research and extension is streamlined in the International Research Publication (http://orcid.org/0000-0002-5946-0146) and his leadership as Director and Charter Member of the Association of Junior Graftwatch Unit Advisers in Region 7 (AJA-7). These testaments of selfless engagement in government thrusts is strengthened by numerous trainings that center on efficient administration as Quality Management System Lead Auditor Course Training by the Anglo Japanese American Registrars, Inc. and Tri-Skills (Management, Supervisory and Leadership) Enhancement Training in 2015.
Leading the group of key players in nation building on Dr. Flores’ end is a fundamental initiative that has strategically put him in a position to secure CTU’s name and standards in the global village.
