Last Tuesday, October 3, 2023, a seminar entitled “The Blue Water Heritage: Guarding Marine Wildlife for the Future” was held in CTU Bantayan. The seminar tackled relevant topics on the subject of fisheries and aquatic resources.

An example of this is the discussion about the importance of large marine vertebrates or “LaMaVes”, which was presented by Mr. Eugene Abria (Bantayan Env., Mgt. Spec).  Ms. Lebeth M. Rodrigues (PACPI Prog. Director) also shared her expertise about the blue swimming crabs (BSC) and the policies and ordinances that were implemented to protect them.

The seminar aims to raise awareness and encourage future workshop cooperation with the future marine technologists of Bantayan Island, considering that the Visayan Sea is a major fishing ground of BSC and Bantayan Island is rich with seagrass beds where the aforementioned endangered species live.

The seminar ended by giving prizes to those students who were able to answer the questions that were given after the discussion. The seminar was participated by all the BS Fisheries students. Ms. Gal Meรฑora (Bantayan RRMU Head) gave the opening remarks and the CTU Bantayan campus director, Ms. Girlie F. Fariola gave the closing remarks of the seminar.
