CTU enters agreement with PCA to sustain coconut planting and replanting program

Cebu Technological University (CTU) and the Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA) forge a linkage to work together for the coconut planting and replanting program to serve the needs of the farmers in Region VII for suitable quality planting materials thus, signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on November 21, 2022, at Presidents Office – CTU main.

As the MOA stipulated, CTU shall provide 30 hectares of land to be developed as Seed Farm. The said area is at CTU Barili, the largest land area among CTU campuses. Likewise, it shall allot to PCA seventy percent (70%) of its production of good hybrid seed nuts for use in the PCA’s planting and replanting program.

On the other hand, PCA shall plant selected coconut populations (dwarf or tall) in the area offered and will shoulder all expenses connected with or incidental to the establishment and maintenance of the seed farm.

PCA is a government agency mandated to oversee the development of the coconut industry. The agency is currently implementing the Seed Farm Development Program (SFDP), which intends to assist in establishing coconut seed farms that will serve as sources of seed nuts and seedlings.

The Seed Farm Development Project between CTU and PCA will be implemented for 25 years, subject to renewal. It plays a crucial role across the whole supply value chain of the coconut industry. Likewise, it attests to CTU’s mission to address the needs of the region and the nation.
