Mr. Marciano Tangpos, faculty from the College of Agriculture, Food Science, Agribusiness and Development Communication (CAFBC) of Barili Campus, won best paper in Agri-Fishery Track during the 1st Cebu Technological University Moalboal International Research Congress (CTUMIRC) on March 15 – 17, 2023, at the CTU Moalboal Campus.
Tangpos research paper published in 2022 titled ‘Bio-Organic Fermentation Improved the Morphophenotypic and Economic Analysis of Lettuce (Lactuca Sativa var. Red Rapid)’ bested among the fifteen paper presentations in the Agri-Fishery Track.
The research paper determined the effectiveness of different organic concoctions, including organic materials such as Fish Amino Acid, Fermented fruit Juice, Fermented Plant Juice, Indigenous Microorganism II, and Fermented Golden Apple Snail. To test the effectivity of concoctions, they were applied to different organically grown lettuce in a hydroponic system — a method of growing plants without soil. The research showed that all organic concoctions exhibit the potential to produce higher economic yield.
‘If we are aiming into sustainable agriculture, engaging into organic agriculture instead of inorganic agriculture is one way of doing it,’ says Mr. Tangpos when asked about the significance of his research.
