CTU Barili Faculty Researchers Garner Accolades at Regional Research Conference

CTU Barili faculty researchers from the College of Agriculture, Food Science, Agribusiness, and Development Communication (CAFBC) achieved remarkable success at the 8th Central Visayas Health Research and Innovation Conference (CVHRIC) held on May 10-12, 2023, at the Siquijor State College.

Prof. Pet Roey L. Pascual, Prof. Danny E. Carabio, Prof. Lorelie Q. Escabal, and Mr. Jerome Ruiz presented their research papers during the conference, earning prestigious awards for their outstanding work.

Among the recipients, Prof. Lorelie Q. Escabal secured first place in the Non-experimental Professional Category for her study titled “Assessing Consumer Acceptance and Willingness to Pay for a Blended Beverage from Seaweed (Eucheuma cottonii Weber Bosse) and Selected Tropical Fruits (Mangifera indica Linn and Theobroma cacao Linn).”

Dr. Pet Roey L. Pascual and Prof. Danny E. Carabio’s respective research presentations, “Morphological and Photosynthetic Responses of Kale (Brassica Oleracea var. Sabellica) Grown Under Different Light Conditions” and “Vegetative, Photosynthetic, and Anthocyanin Content of Turmeric (Curcuma Longa L.) Applied with Organic Foliar Fertilizers,” earned them second and fourth place in the Experimental Professional Category.

In the Experimental Student Category, Mr. Jerome Ruiz attained the second position with his study entitled “Antioxidant Activity and α-Amylase Inhibition of Methanolic Extracts from Selected Bamboo Species in Cebu, Philippines, as a Potential Antidiabetic Model.”

The Central Visayas Consortium for Health Research and Development (CVCHRD) organized the event under “The Roles of Academe, Industry, and Government in the Attainment of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.” The conference featured various research activities, including oral presentations, poster presentations, infographics, and infomercials.
