The Research and Development Office of CTU Barili continues to capacitate its faculty members, this time through a Patent Search and Drafting Seminar Workshop. Engineer Jeremy P. Mondejar, the campus R and D Director, organized the 3-day seminar-workshop on July 5-7 at the campus Biotech Center.
The workshop dealt with skills development in patent search and drafting. It enabled the participants to draft the Utility Model (UM) or Patents of the innovation and invention made by the faculty members.
The knowledgeable resource speakers from the University Knowledge, Innovation, Technology Support Transfer Office (KITSTO), specifically Dr. Leodivino A. Lawas, the University Director for KITSTO, Engr Naomi A. Bajao and Dr. Tracy L. Mantos, Innovation, and Technology Support Office (ITSO) members, aided the faculty members in acquiring the essential knowledge enveloping the topics.
The participants learned the importance of Intellectual Property (IP) Protection, Intellectual Property Valuation, and Licensing and technology transfer agreement and how these are essential to their community extension activities, especially the technology transfer. The participants were also guided in patent searching, where they had hands-on experience in spotting the invention and patent specification drafting.
On the third day of the workshop, the participants shared their works on the Utility Model (UM) they had drafted. Outputs from selected participants were applied for online UM application. The online application demonstration completed the faculty members’ experience from Patent/UM search, drafting, and application.
Overall, the workshop enriched the faculty members’ innovative side, which is essential for their growth.
