CTU Barili Culminates 125th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary with Mangrove Planting Activity

In celebration of the 125th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary, Cebu Technological University (CTU) Barili Campus culminated its month-long observance with a mangrove planting activity on September 30, 2025, held along the designated marine protected area of Barangay Guiwanon.

A total of 525 mangrove seedlings were planted by all regular faculty and staff of CTU Barili, with support from the Guiwanon Bantay Dagat.

Guiwanon Barangay Captain Hon. Ramon E. Ewican, Jr., expressed his gratitude to the university for selecting Guiwanon as the activity site, citing the continuing need for reforestation in the area.

“Nagpasalamat mi nga diri mo nagpahigayun sa inyuhang mangrove planting kay dakudako pa gyud ang area diha nga among katamnan. I think nakatanum nami diha mga 20,000 plus na siguro. Pero dili man gud tanan mabuhi kay mangamatay man ang uban”, said Hon. Ewican.

(We’re thankful that you chose to do your mangrove planting here because there’s still a large area that we need to plant in. I think we’ve already planted around 20,000 mangroves there. But not all of them survive because some eventually die)

In his welcome address, CTU Barili Campus Director, Dr. Romeo C. Lepiten, reminded the faculty and staff of their important role in government service. He encouraged everyone to internalize the values of public service, anchoring on this year’s 125th PSC Anniversary theme.

“Mao gyud unta ni ato e-internalize, how small or big ang atong gibuhat, e-dedicate na nato sa gobyerno”, Dr. Lepiten emphasized.

(This is really what we should internalize — no matter how small or big our actions are, we should dedicate them to the government)

The 125th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary bears the theme ‘Bawat Kawani, Lingkod Bayani: Puso, Dangal, at Galing Para sa Bayan’.
