The faculty and staff of Cebu Technological University (CTU) Barili Campus received Basic Life Support (BLS) and Psychological First Aid (PFA) training as part of the campus enhancement activities and year-end celebration on December 9-11, 2025.
During the first day of the activities, the campus Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) spearheaded a BLS training, which aims to strengthen the campus’s immediate emergency response capabilities. Mr. Linus M. Cabase, a registered nurse and a Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician – Basic (NREMT-B), served as the resource speaker for the training. Mr. Cabase imparted to the participants the importance of lifesaving skills in disaster situations.

The second day of the enhancement activities focused on the seminar on Psychological First Aid spearheaded by the Guidance office. Ms. Roqlyn Silverado, the CTU Barili Guidance Associate and a registered psychometrician, served as the resource speaker for the seminar. Ms. Silverado delved into the roles of PFA provider and emphasized what the participants can do when providing psychological care. After the lecture session, a simulation was conducted in which participants role-played the role of a PFA provider.
“As a teacher and employee, Psychological First Aid (PFA) training is important. It’s like having a toolkit to support students and colleagues who might be going through tough times. By knowing how to provide emotional support, listen actively, and connect people with resources, you can make a big difference in someone’s life,” said Ronald Ollave, the past president of CTU Barili faculty association, on the importance of PFA training among employees.
The BLS and PFA training contribute to building a more prepared and resilient CTU Barili community.
