HISTORY AND BACKGROUND
The University Shared Facility Carmen Cebu Campus was formally launched on September 17, 2019. The building assigned to be utilized for the USF operation was the former Mess Hall building of CTU Carmen. Established as a partnership of the university and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). It seeks to broaden its linkages with other government and non-government organizations to maximize its services to target beneficiaries, especially MSME’s, start-ups, makers, academe and creative individuals.
It was a constitutional mandate of every higher learning institution to provide and formulate quality and sustainable programs intended for the benefits of the underprivileged sector in society.
CTU Carmen works to achieve its goals and objectives which is to serve the community by partnering with the group of sinamay weavers in Carmen through its Sinamayan program.
At present, CTU Carmen has an existing large format printer under DTI’s University Shared Facility (USF) which can print not only different indigenous fabrics like sinamay but also different media types like stickers, banners, self-adhesive vinyl, films, papers, wall coverings, canvass, synthetics, mesh, textiles, and many more.
But since the large format printer is not capable of cutting stickers with irregular shapes, CTU Carmen Campus through the assistance of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) acquired a new machine, a Cutter Plotter that has a system that gives unlimited possibilities of cutting stickers with irregular shapes and with many color.
This additional University Shared Facility (USF) project is expected to gain significantly a higher income as it will cater to more Micro, Small, and Medium enterprises from different business sectors that use stickers and labels for their products that are prevalent in Carmen, its neighboring municipalities and in different cities/municipalities of Cebu.
