The Cebu Technological University (CTU) Consolacion Campus successfully carried out the second phase of its GUSLA (Gastronomic Understanding and Skills for Lifelong Application) extension program at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Consolacion on September 5, 2025.
The activity commenced following the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing between CTU Consolacion and BJMP, which reaffirmed their shared mission to provide sustainable livelihood skills to persons deprived of liberty (PDLs).
A highlight of this phase was the hands-on pastry-making demonstration, spearheaded by Prof. Staphen Dave Ponce together with selected competent students from the Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (BSHM) Department of CTU Consolacion. The session introduced the PDLs to the process of preparing and cooking donuts, with participants actively engaging in the step-by-step training.
The initiative aimed to equip PDLs with practical culinary skills that can help them establish livelihood opportunities and support their reintegration into society.
The GUSLA project underscores CTU Consolacionโs strong commitment to community involvement, rehabilitation, and empowerment through education and skills development. BJMP officials also expressed their gratitude for the universityโs continuous support, emphasizing the programโs role in fostering productivity, discipline, and hope among PDLs.
With the successful rollout of its second phase, the GUSLA extension program continues to pave the way for transformative learning experiences that can uplift lives beyond the walls of confinement.
