On August 30, 2022, the Cebu Technological University Daanbanatayan Campus celebrated the National Press Freedom Day headed by The Modern Fisher (TMF).
Under the supervision of Dr. Nikkithea L. Beduya, TMF Adviser, and Mr. Christian Louis Orongan, Editor in Chief, along with other officers, they organized a writing contest where they encouraged all the aspiring writers (news, feature, editorial, column, and literary) and non-writers (photojournalism, cartoonist, and multimedia editor) for a screening on August 30 at the TMF Office. Moreover, the writers are directed to bring their materials in writing and drawing.
Mr. Orongan and other officers organized and led the contest. The participants were given the on-the-spot writing of an article or piece of their interest field. There were nine (10) students, and they belonged to different Colleges.
The campus celebrated National Press Freedom Day under Republic Act 11699, which August 30 has been designated in honor of Marcelo H. del Pilar, the father of Philippine journalism.
