Prof. Arnie C. Trangia, a respected Associate Professor V at Cebu Technological University (CTU) Daanbantayan Campus, has once again made the university proud by winning the Best Sustainability Research Paper Award during the 3rd National R&D Sustainability Summit 2024 for Agriculture and Fisheries. The event, held from November 13 to 15, 2024, featured the theme “Sustainability, Future, and Innovation for a New Philippines (Bagong Pilipinas)”, focusing on how sustainability and innovation can shape the future of agriculture, fisheries, and food security in the country.

Prof. Trangia’s winning research paper, titled “Milkfish Cultivation within the Tidal Ponds of a Mangrove Afforested Project,” has brought attention to his groundbreaking work in sustainable fisheries. His research highlights the potential of integrating milkfish cultivation into tidal mangrove ecosystems, showcasing a model that not only improves food security but also protects and regenerates the environment. This project is particularly significant for Daanbantayan, a region known for its rich marine life, where fisheries are vital to the livelihood of local communities.

This prestigious award follows Prof. Trangiaโ€™s earlier success in 2021 when he won 3rd place for Best Paper at the National Conference on Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry, a testament to his continued dedication to research in sustainable practices within the fisheries sector.

A passionate advocate for the protection of fisheries ecosystems, Prof. Trangia envisions a future where both the environment and local communities can thrive. He believes in the power of innovation to create sustainable livelihoods for future generations and encourages the people of Daanbantayan to explore new methods of cultivating and protecting their natural resources.

“Taking good care of our fisheries ecosystem is essential not only for us but for the generations to come,” Prof. Trangia said. “I hope this project will inspire not only teachers and students but also the entire Daanbantayan community to innovate in fisheries and adopt sustainable practices to ensure long-term food security and environmental health.”

His work has the potential to change the way the community approaches marine resource management, offering new, sustainable solutions that balance both ecological preservation and economic development. Prof. Trangia’s research emphasizes the importance of innovation in creating a more sustainable future for local fishermen and their families.

Prof. Trangiaโ€™s achievements are not only a source of pride for CTU Daanbantayan but also for the entire community, as his work puts Daanbantayan on the map as a hub for innovative solutions in agriculture and fisheries. His contributions extend beyond the classroom, with his research providing practical, sustainable solutions that directly benefit local communities, particularly those whose livelihoods are tied to the sea.

As Prof. Trangia continues his research and projects, he remains a role model for students, faculty, and the community. His tireless dedication to both academic excellence and environmental sustainability is truly commendable, and he has earned the admiration of all who work alongside him.

Congratulations, Prof. Arnie C. Trangia, on your well-deserved recognition. Your efforts and passion are truly inspiring, and we are proud to have you representing CTU Daanbantayan. You are a rare species in the sea of innovation, and your success brings honor not only to our campus but to the entire Daanbantayan community.
