The CTU Danao Administration, thru its National Service Training Program (NSTP) in partnership with the Association of Fil-Am Teachers of America, Inc. (AFTA), conducted a mangrove planting activity in Tawsan, Guinsay, Danao City, on August 6, 2022.
CTU continues to advocate for helping to conserve the ecosystem in support of sustainable development goal number 13, which states to protect the planet.
A selected group of offices led the charge to advance the objective, including the NSTP-CWTS of Prof. Delia G. Sabio and Dr. Sarah Jane A. Colina, the ROTC with Engr. Rosalito Juda Eboa, the CTU Danao Library, Mrs. Sarah Jean Jamero, Mrs. Rosemarie Abayon- Campus Registrar, Mrs. Jacqueline Baguio- Accounting Office, and their respective office personnel and student officials.
The partnership is made possible through the support of AFTA Inc. thru its Kaisang Palad Project 2022. AFTA is a Lingkod sa Kapwa Pilipino (LINKAPIL) Awardee 2018, a presidential award for a Filipino association with exceptional and significant contributions to Philippine reconstruction, progress, and development with a mission to strengthen and advance the teaching profession by providing educational, charitable, and civic services in both the national and international community.
Before planting the mangrove propagules, Mr. Homer Gonzales of the Danao City City Agriculture Office provides a brief introduction. He spoke about the necessity of raising awareness of the importance of mangroves, asserting that not everyone is aware of how these coastal bushes and trees protect the shoreline while also offering food and shelter to animals, which is essential in nourishing wildlife habitats, including the wintering grounds of migratory birds and the breeding grounds of marine species.
Along with providing the most significant education possible, CTU Danao never stops pursuing its commitment to environmental preservation. Likewise, the officers and members of AFTA Inc. also pledge to regularly check on the mangroves planted on the AFTA Lane in barangay Tawsan in Danao City.
