
March marks the start of the National Women’s Month Celebration, a time dedicated to celebrating the achievements and contributions of women throughout history as active contributors and claim holders of development. To mark this significant occasion, a kick-off activity of the month-long celebration was initiated by LGU Danao City, on March 3, 2023, at Danao City Civic Center, with the theme “WE for Gender Equality and Inclusive Society.” Cebu Technological University-Danao Campus and the National Government Agencies attended and represented Cluster 1.
The event starts with a holy mass at 6:30 am, followed by a parade and opening program attended by empowered Danawanon women from all walks of life. The attendees are welcomed by the Chairperson of Sangguniang Panglungsod Committee on Women, Hon. Kristine C. Gorre, who states that “a woman plays an essential role in our society, she is more than just a mother, wife, daughter and sister thus, empowering women is a big responsibility but is also vital for gender equality.”
It is followed by an inspirational message from Hon. Carmen Remedios H. Durano. In her inspirational message, she emphasizes the importance of empowering women while highlighting women’s struggles and accomplishments over the past century. She also reminded the audience of the importance of fighting for gender equality and creating a society that is not prejudicial but inclusive to women.
In addition, Ms. Cheryl B. Juanico, secretary to the Sangguniang Panglungsod, formally declared the opening of the Women’s Month Celebration 2023.
Lastly, the Student Development Director of CTU Danao, Dr. Sarah Jane A. Colina, read the closing message on behalf of the Campus Director, Dr. Rose Mary L. Almacen, which states, “Let us carry the spirit of this event forward and continue to support and empower women in our communities, let our voices be heard against discrimination and injustice, and may we all work together to build a more just and equal world for all.”
Indeed, this month-long celebration aims to empower women through prepared activities, including conferences, workshops, and networking events that encourage and inspire women to be the version of themselves and believe that being a woman is worthy of being celebrated.
