Cebu Technological University Danao Campus (CTU Danao) stood as a beacon of knowledge and change when it recently hosted the National Correctional Consciousness Week (NACOCOW) Forum 2023, led by the dynamic Regional Director of the Jail Bureau, JCSUPT NEIL R AVISADO. The event, held as part of the region’s weeklong celebration, showcased the remarkable commitment of CTU Danao to community engagement and social awareness.
The event featured a team of dedicated professionals, including chiefs and staff from various regional offices. Each member of the team represented different services and programs integral to the mandates of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP). Their presence underscored the importance of correctional services and their role in shaping a more just and compassionate society.
The forum addressed crucial topics, including the welfare and development programs for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL), the core values and mandates of the BJMP, and the intricate processes involved in recruiting Jail Officer 1 (JO1). Furthermore, the event highlighted the region’s innovative initiatives designed to benefit the wider community, showcasing the BJMP’s commitment to holistic rehabilitation.
In an engaging twist, the audience actively participated in a competitive “Quiz-bee,” a brainchild of the Regional Welfare and Development Division, led by Chief, RWDD, JCINSP PAULINE BAJAR-OMEGA. The quiz provided a lively platform for attendees to test their knowledge of correctional matters and BJMP policies, emphasizing the importance of informed and engaged citizens.
CTU Danao also expressed gratitude to the Danao City Jail Male Dormitory, led by Jail Warden JSUPT FELIPE A MONTEJO. The inmates’ generosity in sharing their pastry products from the SAKPI Bakery with CTU Danao students further solidified the strong bond between the educational institution and the local correctional facility, underscoring the power of collaboration and community support.
