CebuTech Danao Campus Equips Faculty with Basic Life Support, First Aid Skills

Cebu Technological University-Danao Campus’s Gender And Development (GAD) office led a Basic Life Support Training for faculty and staff on March 4, 2025, at the Centrum Facility Conference Hall as part of its proactive effort to emergency preparedness. Spearheaded by Dr. Delfa Castilla, GAD Chair, the initiative aimed to equip employees with essential knowledge and skills to effectively respond to emergencies.
Rescue 211 Instructor and Fire Suppression Team Leader Mr. Dennis Earl M. Lucenas delivered comprehensive training on basic life support assessment protocols, structured response strategies, and key principles for addressing a range of emergency situations, from basic to severe. Key skills and topics discussed during the training include CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation), Heimlich Maneuver, stopping bleeding, treating burns, and basic hygiene and wound management. Throughout the session, he emphasized the paramount importance of prioritizing personal safety, underscoring that it is crucial for an effective response in any situation.
This training was prompted by the strict inclusion of CHED Memorandum 63, Series of 2017, in the new student manual of CTU, which mandates faculty members to be equipped with basic life support and first aid skills to ensure student safety during off-campus activities. By implementing this requirement, CTU and CHED reaffirm their commitment to prioritizing student welfare, providing faculty with the necessary tools to effectively manage and respond to emergencies, thereby fostering a safer and more supportive educational environment and opportunities for students.
