A sustainable future is growing in the heart of Bongdo, Borbon, as a transformative 8-hour skills training program, “Cultivating the Future: Empowering the Future Communities Through Hydroponics Fabrication with Precision Slope Design,” was successfully conducted by Cebu Technological University, Danao Campus, through its Extension Services on May 10, 2025.
This training, led by Dr. Marlon D. Mata, aimed to help communities adopt Nutrient Film Technique (NFT) hydroponics systems that enable efficient crop production with minimal land use and water consumption.
Students from the Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) program assisted in the implementation by teaching skills in precision, fabrication techniques, and experimental analysis—core areas aligned with mechanical learning objectives.
By addressing critical challenges such as water scarcity, soil degradation, and the overuse of fertilizers and pesticides, this initiative offers a sustainable and effective solution to some of the region’s most pressing agricultural problems.
