8 CTU-Danao Faculty Take Oath as Associate, Regular NRCP Members

Eight faculty members from Cebu Technological University (CTU) Danao Campus took their oath as new associate and regular members of the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) during the 2025 NRCP Annual Scientific Conference and the 22nd Visayas Regional Cluster Assembly, held June 13 at the University of San Agustin in Iloilo City.

Among the new inducted Regular Members from the College of Education, Arts and Sciences (CEAS) are Dr. Gerly A. Alcantara and Dr. Rommel C. Mutya. Six others—Dr. Emily C. Costan, Dr. Felix C. Costan, Dr. Sarah Jane A. Colina, Dr. Edralin A. General, Dr. Ivy C. Carascal, and Dr. Catherine C. Terana—were sworn in as Associate Members. Dr. Ivy A. Batican and Dr. Joshlen B. Lim also participated as returning members.

NRCP membership connects researchers to national network, offering opportunities for collaboration, funding, and professional growth.

This year’s assembly, themed “Empowering A Sustainable Future: Science, Technology, Social Innovation, and Human Capital in Global Challenges,” featured Dr. Clement C. Camposano, Chancellor of UP Visayas, as keynote speaker. Dr. Camposano’s talk, “Can Science Empower,” explored the evolving nature of research and the vital role of community involvement in scientific progress. Science is corrigible and tentative. “It is more than just a specialized body of knowledge. We need to think of science as a process; a process that involves method,” he says.

Following Dr. Camposano’s talk, three plenary speakers addressed regional research and innovation. Engr. Rowen R. Gelonga, DOST-VI Regional Director, outlined Visayas’ research and development landscape in “The RDI Landscape of the Visayas Region.” Dr. Joemar Taganna, CEO of Paytaca, discussed blockchain-powered decentralized science, “Charting A Path for the Visayas: Harnessing Blockchain-Powered Decentralized Science Towards Market-Driven Innovation,” while Dr. Patricia Anne G. Nazareno of UP Cebu highlighted the impact of education on sustainable futures in “Shaping Sustainable Futures Through Education from Classrooms to Global Solutions.”

These presentations underscored the need for research that addresses real-world challenges and fosters collaboration across institutions and communities.

The active participation of CTU-Danao faculty members in the conference is a significant step in updating the university’s research priorities and inspiring innovation. Their involvement promotes personal and professional growth and contributes to the university’s overall development, reinforcing CTU-Danao’s commitment to advancing science and technology for societal benefit.
