The Cebu Technological University (CTU) Danao Campus marks a significant milestone in the fields of science, technology, and innovation (STI) in the Philippines with two of its academic leaders being inducted as members in the 74th Annual Convention of the Philippine Association for the Advancement of Science and Technology (PhilAAST) held in Cebu City on July 29, 2025.
The event, titled “Visayas Island Seminar on PAGTANAW 2050: Science, Technology, and Innovation for Infrastructure, Energy, and Water Security,” aimed to raise the profile of the long-term natural foresight plan, PAGTANAW 2050, in regional development and was a two-way collaboration between DOST and PhilAAST. This year’s theme, “Infrastructure, Energy, and Water Security Outlook: Moving Forward to PAGTANAW 2050,” focused on future-proofing the country’s STI.
Dr. Romel C. Mutya, Chairman of Research and Development, and Dr. Felix Costan, faculty researcher, were new PhilAAST members who took their oath during the event, symbolizing CTU-Danao’s active participation in promoting the development of STI and being part of the national development plan.

PAGTANAW 2050 is the first DOST-funded interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary project on Philippine-focused STI foresights and strategic planning, which seeks to emphasize a “prosperous, archipelagic, and inclusive nation that is anchored on science-based and technology-driven policies and governance” by the middle of the century. The Visayas seminar is part of a larger country-wide campaign to localize this vision and organize practitioners in the various regions of the country.
Through a stronger foothold in PhilAAST, CTU-Danao is amplifying its position as one of the significant educational partners that drive science-based and sustainable national development.
