CTU Danao Installs Water Treatment Device in Compostela Under Project TUNHAY

Cebu Technological University (CTU) Danao Campus, through its Extension Services, has successfully completed the first phase of Installation of Water Treatment Device under Project TUNHAY, a 12-month community extension project designed to provide safe and clean drinking water to Barangay Lupa, on September 14, 2025.

Project TUNHAY is a research-based initiative led by CTU Danao’s fourth-year BS Industrial Engineering students, Class of 2024 (Batch bagsIEk,) with continuous evaluation by the succeeding Batch dasIEg (2025) and Batch abantIE (2026).

Under the guidance of Dr. Donald R. Lalican of Department of Industrial Engineering, the project aims to create a long-term solution to the community’s water scarcity.

It was realized through the active participation of 53 BSIE students (32 female and 21 male), 8 PIIE-CTU DSC officers, and CTU Danao faculty members. Their collective effort demonstrates the power of academic research, teamwork, and strong community partnerships in addressing urgent local needs.

In October 2024, the project team formally presented the proposed Mobile Water Treatment Device to Barangay Captain Charlemagne B. Pareja and local officials during a community assembly. The presentation outlined its technical features, health and environmental benefits, and the steps for implementation, which received strong support from the barangay.

As Project TUNHAY continues, its next phases will focus on monitoring, evaluation, and sustainability, ensuring that Barangay Lupa gains reliable access to clean water for years to come.
