CTU-Danao Launches 2026 Women’s Month with Opening Salvo for Gender Equality

Cebu Technological University (CTU) Danao Campus marked the start of the 2026 National Women’s Month Celebration with a lively Opening Salvo on March 2 at the campus quadrangle, gathering faculty, staff, students, and partners who demonstrated their support for the advocacy of gender equality and inclusive development.

Anchored on the national theme “We for Gender Equality and Inclusive Society,” the celebration also carried the campus sub-theme “Konektadong Babay, Luwas ug Lambo nga Danao,” highlighting the shared responsibility of building a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment for women.

Organized by the campus administration through the Gender and Development (GAD) Office, the opening program began at 8:00 a.m., with participants assembling shortly before the ceremony. The event marked the start of a month-long series of activities to promote gender awareness, empowerment, and well-being among members of the university community.

Campus Director Dr. Rose Mary L. Almacen delivered the inspirational message, underscoring the importance of fostering a workplace and academic environment where women are supported, respected, and are empowered to lead. She emphasized that initiatives under the GAD program continue to strengthen the university’s commitment to gender-responsive governance and inclusive growth.

A ceremonial ribbon-cutting followed, led by Dr. Almacen together with Dr. Jose Marie Anoos and Dr. Rosemarie N. Abayon, symbolizing the official opening of the campus-wide Women’s Month activities.

In her opening remarks, Dr. Abayon, Administrative Officer V, welcomed participants and highlighted the significance of collective participation in advancing gender equality within community. Meanwhile, Engr. Delfa G. Castilla, Campus GAD Director, presented the lineup of activities for the month, which includes programs designed to support wellness, capacity building, and gender awareness for both students and employees.

Adding energy to the morning program, the CTU-Danao Dance Troupe led a Zumba session that encouraged participants to take part in activities promoting physical health and camaraderie.

The program concluded with closing remarks from Dr. Mildred A. Malapongit, Human Resource Management Officer II, who emphasized the importance of mental health and well-being for both women and men in creating a supportive and productive community.

The Opening Salvo reaffirmed CTU-Danao’s commitment to advancing gender equality within the academic setting and beyond. Through its Gender and Development initiatives, the campus continues to promote respect, empowerment, and equal opportunities as essential pillars of institutional excellence.

As the celebration unfolds throughout March, CTU-Danao aims to raise awareness, encourage collaboration, and inspire meaningful action to build a community where women are connected, protected, and empowered to thrive.
