The Cebu Technological University (CTU) Danao Campus, through its Extension Services, in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross, successfully implemented the extension project titled “Professionalizing Tourism Frontliners Through Certified Basic Life Support.” Spearheaded by Dr. Rodel S. Hintapan, together with Dr. Ludimie R. Capuyan, the initiative aimed to strengthen the emergency preparedness and response capabilities of tourism frontliners by equipping them with essential Basic Life Support (BLS) knowledge and practical life-saving skills.
The training was facilitated by certified instructors from the Philippine Red Cross Bogo City–Northern Cebu Branch, who delivered comprehensive lectures and hands-on demonstrations on emergency response techniques. Participants gained practical experience in performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), managing choking emergencies, and administering fundamental first aid—critical competencies for responding effectively to medical emergencies in tourism settings.

Recognizing that tourism frontliners are often the first to respond during emergencies involving visitors, the program emphasized preparedness, quick decision-making, and competent emergency care. By equipping participants with certified Basic Life Support (BLS) skills, the initiative sought to enhance service quality, strengthen public safety, and contribute to the development of safer, more resilient tourism destinations.
The Extension project also underscored the value of collaboration between higher education institutions and humanitarian organizations in addressing community needs through responsive extension programs. Through its partnership with the Philippine Red Cross, the University provides participants with industry-relevant, skills-based training that complements professional standards in the tourism sector while fostering a culture of safety and preparedness.

The successful implementation of the extension project reflects CTU Danao’s continuing commitment to community engagement, professional development, and sustainable tourism through impactful extension initiatives. By empowering tourism frontliners with essential life-saving competencies, the University reaffirms its mission of producing service-oriented professionals who contribute to safer communities and a more resilient tourism industry.
