CTU and LGU Labogon, Mandaue collaborate for Serbisyo Caravan 2022

The Cebu Technological University, led by the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) in partnership with the Graduate College, College of Management of Entrepreneurship, and the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Labogon Mandaue City, spearheaded a service caravan last September 24, 2022, at the Labogon National High School Gym.

The program started with a series of Zumba dances conducted by the Physical Education Faculty to kick off the caravan. It served as a quick way to get people moving and boost their energy levels.

Hon. Amado Manatad, the captain of Barangay Labogon articulated the opening remarks; while Dr. Lynnette Matea S. Camello, the University Director of Extension Services, then delivered an uplifting statement; and Prof. Anne S. Lorca, the CAS Extension Chairperson, expressed gratitude to the participants that took part on this service caravan.

The health services offered by the caravan include X-rays, Pap smear screenings, talks on breast and cervical cancer, family planning, storytelling, and feeding programs.

According to Dr. Camello during an interview, this community extension project is a Professional Development for teachers and an opportunity to create collaboration with different stakeholders.

After undergoing the health services offered during that day, the participants are given a “Bundle of Joy”, containing a generous amount of goods and IEC materials that contain different symptoms of Cervical Cancer. This is done to increase awareness and provide a method of early diagnosis for the disease. In addition, the children received school supplies that they utilized during their face-to-face classes.

The community extension program was a success and has fulfilled the purpose of assisting and extending help to those in need.
