
In May 2023, the dedicated faculty members of the College of Education conducted an alternative livelihood training program for the community of Barangay Sto. Niño in Tuburan, Cebu. The barangay residents well-attended the training, including the esteemed Barangay Captain, Honorable Rowel Gemparo, and the Municipal Agriculture Officer, Kent Marcial Catubis.
Prof. Esperanza Del Fierro, the Project Leader, and project members Dr. Fe Varona and Dr. Margie Fulgencio led the training program. Their collective expertise and commitment were instrumental in the success of the training. The initiative also received unwavering support from Dean Dr. Reylan Capuno.
The training program was an integral part of the SAKPA extension program, an endeavor by the College of Education of CTU-Main Campus to promote community development and empowerment.
The alternative livelihood training program provided participants with valuable skills and knowledge to explore new avenues for income generation. Through theoretical lessons, practical workshops, and hands-on demonstrations, community members were introduced to various sustainable livelihood options. Topics covered included entrepreneurship, agricultural techniques, handicraft production, and other income-generating activities suitable for the local context.
By diversifying their sources of income and exploring alternative livelihood opportunities, the community of Brgy. Sto. Niño can enhance their economic resilience and improve their quality of life. The training program emphasized the importance of sustainability, innovation, and adaptability in pursuing alternative livelihoods, ensuring long-term viability and positive socio-economic impact.
CoEd-Main remains committed to fostering community development and empowering individuals through education and practical training. The alternative livelihood training in Brgy. Sto. Niño, Tuburan exemplified the college’s dedication to equipping communities with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in a rapidly changing world. By promoting alternative livelihoods, CoEd-Main strives to contribute to the economic growth and well-being of the community, ultimately creating a more sustainable and prosperous future.
