DELS conducts an “Industry Partner Orientation” for its internship program

The Department of English and Literary Studies of the College of Arts and Sciences conducted an Industry Partner Orientation for its internship program as part of its “hybrid’ program of On the Job Training in the Function Hall of the Centennial Building held on April 12, 2023.

A total of seven partner industries were present at the orientation for the Bachelor of Arts in Literature (BAL) and Bachelor of Arts in English Language (BAEL) students.

Interns keen on learning more were offered training from the representatives of the Philinter Academy, a long-standing collaborator of the Department of English and Literary Studies (DELS). The trainers, Ms. Rizalia G. Ortiz and Ms. Shelsa P. Maglasang, gave some examples of the training they might provide the interns to help them improve their abilities as educators, mainly when teaching international students.

Dr. Lina Baguio from the Office of the College of Arts and Sciences, Prof. Allan Marias, Executive Secretary from the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs, and Dr. Cristie Ann Jaca, University Director from the Center for Communication and Media, all welcome prospective interns into their offices.

Ms. Van Floramie Bontilao of the Cultural Heritage Affairs Office presents a video presentation of their work and outputs, which ignites the interns’ interests. Bontilao encourages the interns to join their offices, especially the literature research office. Finally, Ms. Lovely Ross Machica from Ripple Virtual Assistant Services explained the duties of a virtual assistant (VA) to the interns. Along with describing the many duties played by VAs, she also discussed the websites and tools they use.

The student interns have an array of opportunities with these partner industries as each industry partner presents their own offices and organizations that pique the interests and passion of the student interns.

“Good luck, and by the time we send you off the portals outside of CTU, may you always bring with you our brand,” said Dr. Christian Ray Licen, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
