DELS holds its first virtual get together

On April 29, 2023, the Department of English and Literary Studies held its inaugural alumni get-together via Zoom meeting.

The purpose of this virtual get-together is to keep in touch with the alumni to measure whether the program works and the feedback from their employers will form the basis for improving the DELS’ program offerings.

The first-ever virtual reunion of the Department of English and Literary Studies, spearheaded by Dr. Sunleigh Gador, Dr. Mirasol Lim, and the entire faculty of DELS, was warmly welcomed by Dr. Christian Ray Licen, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and Literature Core Faculty.

“As vanguards of quality education, we want to ensure that we keep track wherever you are, in whichever part of the world you are right now. Always know that you have a whole year in the College of Arts and Sciences; please know that as your OIC in the College of Arts and Sciences, we are here to help you and constantly remind you that you will always be a Delsian and a CebuTech at heart, in mind, and spirit” said Dr. Licen.

Dr. Mirasol Lim introduced the entire team of experts in DELS. She introduced the stem faculty members of the English Language Program and the Pillars of the Bachelor of Arts in Literature Program, the Literature core faculty. Dr. Jesum Pitogo, the master of ceremonies, organized an activity for the alumni to get to know one another, add flavor and forge strong bonds with the alumni.

The English Language Core Faculty of DELS, Dr. Sunleigh Gador, presented the three purposes of the DELS Alumni Group. First is to belong, where the alumni can reconnect with each other; second is to help, whether to adopt a student, help a batchmate, or help the curriculum; and lastly, to grow professionally and personally to offer graduate studies in the future.

A total of 40 participants attended the virtual get-together, and the first set of officers for the DELS Alumni were elected. The plans for DELS were also presented right after the election of the first set of officers. The following plans are being envisioned: MAEL offering, tracing and employability, in-person get-togethers, and projects for 2023 with the help of the elected officers.

A response from alumni and the elected president, Mr. Jerson Ompad from the batch 2017, delivered his message, highlighting his support for the DELS’ plans and future projects and emphasizing what Delsians could do for the DELS.

The English Language faculty of DELS delivered a heartwarming closing remark, Dr. Rowanne Marie Mangompit, as she quotes Ben Sasse’s “An institution of higher education is a partnership among students and alumni, faculty and administrators, donors and trustees, neighbourhoods, and more, to build a community and a culture.”
