On May 26, 2023, the Department of Development Communication at Cebu Technological University’s Main Campus organized a comprehensive General Internship Orientation 2023 for third-year Development Communication students. The orientation at ST Building on the university’s Main Campus aimed to provide students with essential information about internship requirements, policy changes, and introductions to partner industries. The event set the stage for a successful internship experience and was marked by insightful presentations and discussions.
The orientation commenced with an opening address by Dr. Christian Ray Licen, the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS). His remarks highlighted the significance of internships and the valuable learning opportunities they offer to students. Dr. Rhea Fabrica, the university director for internships, and Mr. Jan Keith Samuel Lucero, the PESO Job Placement Officer, took the stage to discuss the importance, objectives, process, and necessary documentation for the internship program. Their presentations gave students a clear understanding of the expectations and procedures for securing and completing their internships.
Recognizing the importance of a safe and inclusive work environment, Dr. Michelle P. Trangia, the Gender and Development (GAD) Director of CAS, addressed the students and elaborated on sexual harassment in the workplace. Her presentation emphasized the significance of awareness, prevention, and response mechanisms to ensure a respectful and supportive internship experience.
Prof. Gracie Gay Cabellon, the Internship Coordinator, took the opportunity to present the Internship Policies and Guidelines, providing students with a comprehensive overview of the expectations, responsibilities, and assessment criteria associated with their internships.
Additionally, she introduced the industry partners who collaborated with the university, giving students an exciting glimpse into the diverse range of internship opportunities available.
Armed with knowledge and guidance from the orientation, the third-year DevComm students are now well-prepared and eager to embark on their internships this summer. The orientation provided them with the necessary information and insights to make the most of their internship experiences, enabling them to learn, grow, and pursue new opportunities in the field of Development Communication.
