
Intending to elevate knowledge of the English Language, the Department of English and Literary Studies (DELS) under the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) conducted a consultation for the proposed program Master of Arts in English Language (MAEL) on October 25, 2023, via Zoom in the afternoon.
The program commenced with a welcome address and statement of purpose of Dr. Ariel Ramos, University Dean of Instruction. Presentation of the MAEL Task Force then followed by Dr. Mirasol Lim, DELS Chair, to give recognition of the faculty who formed the degree program.
Dr. Rowanne Mangompit, faculty member of DELS, introduced the invited stakeholders, namely, Dr. Boyet Batang, Vice President for Academic Affairs from Isabela State University; Dr. Bonna Palma, former Chairperson of the Department of English, Foreign Languages, and Literary Studies from West Visayas State University; Dr. Lita Bacalla, Campus Director of CNU Balamban from Cebu Normal University; Mr Michael Cinco of Siliman University and a part-time faculty of CTU-Argao Campus.
Moreover, CTU-MC alumni were also invited to give their insights and suggestions on the said graduate program offering.
Dr. Sunliegh Gador, MAEL Lead Expert and DELS faculty member, relayed the proposed curriculum; followed by the feedback from the guests moderated by Prof. Bejay Bolivar, OIC Associate Dean of the Art, CAS.
The consultation achieved its aim to prepare for the accreditation of the MAEL program according to Commission on Higher Education’s (CHED) standards.
Dr. Christian Ray Licen, CAS Dean, ended the program with a Statement of Commitment—promulgating the English Language as a tool for globalization and societal responsibility.
The event was dubbed as historic and ground-breaking as MAEL is the first post-graduate degree program to be offered by CAS. The opening of this program will be the culmination of the collective efforts of the DELS, anchoring the university’s aim to produce globally competitive graduates.
