Cebu Technological University – Malabuyoc

Campus History

Cebu Technological University (CTU) Malabuyoc was conceived from the ideas of Mr. Sulpicio C. Allera, a retired vocational college superintendent of Cebu Technological University (CTU) Camotes; he was then a Sangguniang Bayan member of Malabuyoc town. During his incumbency, he proposed to create a college in his hometown to cater to the educational needs of his constituents. His idea was not materialized during his term, though, for lack of support from the then administration.

When Dr. Bonifacio S. Villanueva became president of the Cebu State College of Science and Technology (CSCST) System (now Cebu Technological University), Mr. Allera found a favorable ally in his intention to establish a college in his hometown. They met with the then town mayor of Malabuyoc, Hon. Daisy L. Creus, who was equally eager to establish a college in her municipality. Their visit ended up favorably because the then vice mayor Lito Narciso E. Creus also intended and favored the idea of putting up a college in the town so that youth from the municipality and other neighboring towns would be able to pursue a degree without going to the city, which only a handful can afford.

The vision to put up an extension campus was materialized with the assistance of Dr. Ledesma Layon, who prepared the paperwork and documents needed for its creation. Dr. Romeo G. Pableo, the then-campus director of Moalboal Campus, extended his duties and responsibilities without compensation, but also offered chances to those less in life to have a college education and eventually a degree.

CTU Malabuyoc started to operate in June of 2008. Mr. Glenn B. Hoyohoy was appointed as the school-in-charge up to the present. It offered degrees in Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education (BSED) and Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (BSHM) with only one hundred and fifty students.

At present, CTU Malabuyoc offers Bachelor in Elementary Education (BEED) and Bachelor in Industrial Technology (BIT), in addition to the two programs mentioned. Current preparations for Bachelor in Secondary Education – Mathematics (BSED-Math) are now underway.
