The Federation of Student Governments (FSG) of Cebu Technological University (CTU) Incorporated recently held the 12th FSG Leadership Summit, with the theme “Shifting Skies, Redefining Roles: Leaders Rising Together.” The four-day event, aimed at empowering and uniting student leaders across campuses, took place at the Cebu Technological University-Tuburan Campus from April 9-12, 2025.
Student leaders from various CTU campuses—including Argao, Barili, Carmen, Cebu City Mountain Satellite (CCMS), Consolacion, Daanbantayan, Danao, Main, Moalboal, Pinamungahan, San Francisco, and Tuburan—gathered for this momentous event to foster collaboration, strengthen camaraderie, and empower one another in their shared pursuit of transformative leadership.
Day 0 kicked off as all the delegates brought together in unity and reflection with a Holy Mass, followed by a vibrant parade wherein the delegates joined while wearing their color-coded shirts, which officially marked the start of the summit, and afterward, they were then sorted into their respective zodiac sign houses, setting the tone for camaraderie and team spirit throughout the event.
In the evening, everyone embraced glamour and sophistication at the Solitaire Soirée, wearing their best Gatsby-inspired outfits and stepping into a night filled with elegance and brilliance.
Day 1 began with a refreshing hike to the scenic bamboo plantation and coffee farm at Tuburan 360; afterward, the summit transitioned to a series of empowering leadership talks. Mr. Richard Delos Reyes, Co-link of the Youth Convener, delivered a powerful session titled “The North Star Leadership: Building Character and Organizations That Endure,” inspiring delegates to lead with purpose, integrity, and vision.
This was followed by Mr. Diovanie Obineta, Learning Engagement and Program Officer of the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc., who ignited the delegates’ strategic instincts with his session, “The Greenlight Blueprint: Crafting Proposals That Get a Resounding YES!” This dynamic session guided participants in designing actionable and impactful project proposals.
While Prof. Siegfried Mendoza, CTU-DOST-PCAARRD Manager, then broadened the delegates’ perspectives with his session, “Beyond the Moment: Pitching Sustainable Projects That Last,” emphasizing long-term thinking, innovation, and empathy in project planning; and Ms. Carla Ganob, Project Lead at the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc., followed with “From Paper to Impact: Managing Proposals for Real-World Challenges,” talk offering practical strategies for transforming ideas into tangible results.
As night fell, the Astral Fellowship Night offered a moment of pause and reflection. Delegates gathered to look inward as the activity deepened their connection not only with one another but with their own leadership journey.
Day 2 showcased the intellectual prowess and strategic thinking of the delegates through a series of academic competitions, including expository, argumentative, and persuasive essay writing, as well as minute writing, resolution writing, extemporaneous speech, and debate. The day’s highlight was the highly anticipated Project Pitching Competition, wherein student leaders presented innovative and sustainable proposals aimed at addressing real-world challenges.
The afternoon shifted to more physical challenges with the Celestial Hurdles, where delegates donned activewear for team-based physical activities promoting fitness and unity as the competition brought an air of excitement and further strengthened bonds among delegates.
In the evening, the Exodus Walk challenged delegates to navigate symbolic paths that reflected the struggles and triumphs of leadership, encouraging trust, self-awareness, and resilience.
The final day of the summit, Day 3, began with the leadership session facilitated by Ms. Niña Estenzo, entitled “Anchored in Action: Building Leadership and Sustainability,” as her talk emphasized the importance of sustainable leadership practices, urging student leaders to take meaningful action rooted in vision, accountability, and long-term impact.
The day concluded with an awarding ceremony that honored the outstanding performances in the academic and strategic competitions. In the Essay Writing categories, Pisces secured first place in Expository, Gemini topped the Argumentative, and Aries took the lead in the Persuasive category.
Furthermore, Leo emerged as the winner in Minute Writing, while Virgo excelled in Resolution Writing; Moreover, Sagittarius claimed the top spot in Extemporaneous Speech, and the Affirmative side was declared the Debate Champion; In addition, Virgo also bagged first place in the Project Pitching competition.
The final overall rankings were then announced, with Gemini landing in third place, Virgo taking second, and Taurus rising above the rest to be crowned the overall champion.
On the other hand, Therese Basay, a Creative Committee under the Future Science and Technology Leaders of the Philippines (FSTLP) of CTU-Danao Campus, described the event as a testament to true leadership.
“I believe this is what true leadership looks like, looking out for others while knowing how and when to act, and working together for the success of the team,” Basay expressed.
The 12th FSG Leadership Summit was an unforgettable experience that empowered and inspired student leaders through various sessions, activities, and competitions. As the summit concluded, delegates left with a renewed sense of purpose, ready to face leadership challenges—truly embodying the spirit of shifting skies and redefining roles, proving that together, leaders rise.
