ADELINE P. DELA CRUZ, DM-HRM

Special Order No. 19-11-07 issued by Dr. Rosein A. Ancheta, Jr., University President, pursuant to the Approved Board of Regent’s Resolution No. 123, series 2019, “A Resolution Approving/Confirming the New Designation in the Different Key Positions of Cebu Technological University (CTU)”.

Dr. Dela Cruz’s work background is a combination of academe and industry experience. She has been a hotelier in Magellan International Hotel, the first four-star hotel in Cebu City, where she was assigned in the Personnel Department in the areas of recruitment, training, and administration of employees’ compensation and benefits. While working in the hotel, she also taught part-time in the evening programs of private universities in the city. After four years in the hotel, she decided to focus on academic work where she taught full-time at the University of Cebu. After six years in private employment, she turned to public service; she worked in the leading government bank, the Land Bank of the Philippines, where she was exposed to the different frontline positions in branch banking operations such as branch secretary, new accounts clerk, cash clerk, signature verifier, documents examiner, and bank teller. After ten years in the banking industry, she availed of the early retirement program. Since she loved teaching, she went back to school, enrolled, and studied to get a diploma in professional education (DPE) so she can take the teacher’s licensure examination. She passed the teacher’s board exam and became a licensed professional teacher in August 2004. In October of the same year, she was hired as Instructor 1 of Cebu State College of Science and Technology (CSCST)-Barili Campus. She was assigned to teach major courses in the program hotel and restaurant services technology (BSHRST, now BS in hospitality management). While she was busy with instruction, she also fulfilled her other duties in the area of community extension services in different roles such as a training coordinator, facilitator, or resource speaker. She also produced instructional materials and was involved in research for the hospitality management department. She also accepted designations and served as practicum coordinator, scholarship coordinator, job placement officer, and HM department chair. Within her sixteen (16) years of service to CTU, her academic rank steadily rose from Instructor I in 2004 to Associate Professor IV in 2019. From 2017 to 2019, she has also served as a member of the Board of Regents (BOR) of CTU in her capacity as Faculty Regent, representing the rank-and-file faculty of CTU. Her appointment as a Board member was based on her election as the president of the CTU System Federation of Faculty Associations (CTUSFFA). In October 2019, her being a representative of the rank-and-file faculty was cut short, since she moved to managerial ranks when she accepted the designation as campus director of CTU Barili. She is currently the Campus Director of CTU Naga.

EDUCATION

Her promotion in terms of academic rank and responsibility comes naturally since she continuously strives for excellence in everything that she does, most especially in her studies. She has been a consistent honor student since elementary years. In high school, she was a scholar at Cebu City National Science High School. For college, although she received numerous scholarship offers, she chose to study at the University of the Philippines-College Cebu (UPCC), so she wouldn’t have to leave behind her family. She was one of the pioneering students who studied Bachelor of Business Management, majoring in Hotel and Restaurant Management (BBM HRM). For advanced studies, she enrolled in a Master of Arts in Vocational Education (MAVEd) and completed academic requirements (CAR). Before she could finish MAVEd, she passed the qualifying exams for the local scholarship program for the master's degree program (LSP-MDP) offered by the Civil Service Commission (CSC). This scholarship encouraged her to pursue a new master’s program which can vertically align her to the courses she was teaching. Thus, she enrolled in the Master of Business Administration major in Hotel and Restaurant Management (MBA-HRM) and graduated from the Southwestern University (SWU) in Cebu City. A few years later, she had another scholarship grant, from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) which financed her doctoral program. She has finished her Doctor in Management major in Human Resources Management (DM-HRM) from the University of San Jose Recoletos (USJR), in Cebu City.

Even with her numerous degrees, she continued her pursuit of excellence in learning. She continuously upgraded her knowledge and skills in her field and also in other related or allied fields; thus, she gained additional insights as she participated in numerous seminars, workshops, and trainings. Her diligence paid off as she passed four (4) licensure examinations and got licensed by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), such as Professional Teacher, Environmental Planner, Real Estate Appraiser, and Real Estate Broker. She also passed the Career Service Professional Exam conducted by the Civil Service Commission (CSC). She also gained three (3) national certificate level 2 from the Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA), such as Commercial Cooking NC II, Housekeeping NC II, and Household Services NC II.
