CTU Local Research Ethics Committees convene for ethics training

Under the stewardship of Dr Adrian Y. Ybanez, the Cebu Technological University’s Research and Development office, under the stewardship of Dr Adrian Y. Ybanez, conducted a 3 – day seminar held in San Remigio, Cebu City, on July 6 – 8, 2021.

It was attended by the local ethics committee members, together with the university ethics committee.

The training aimed to discern the ethical value of each research submission. Research outputs, termed “protocols”, are exempted, expedited and entire board. Exempted protocols do not have human participants. Expedited protocols involve human participation but are not case sensitive, such as interviews and surveys; finally, complete board protocols involve critical studies like HIV, child prostitution, and the like.

Before conducting the research activities, the vice president’s office for Research and Development requires the evaluation of protocols.

This training is vital because it enabled the participants to understand ethical considerations better and apply these in reviewing submitted protocols. It is imperative to check articles to ensure no harm inflicting on any human being. / Margie D. Fulgencio, CTU Main, COED Faculty
