The five state universities across the region united as they attended the 1st Futures Thinking Central Visayas Summit held on April 20, 2022, at the Function Hall of Cebu Technological University Campus with the theme, “Futures Thinking for a future-proof, sustainable and resilient Central Visayas”.
The CTU, State Universities and Colleges in Region 7, composed of Cebu Normal University (CNU), Bohol Island State University (BISU), Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) and Siquijor State College (SSC), collaborated with their common direction of advancing the futures thinking framework through impact foresight education, research training, and advocacy.
During the summit, the University President, Dr Rosein A. Ancheta Jr., expressed his inspirational message along with Dr Adrian P. Ybañez, Vice-President for Research and Development and the CTU Focal Person for Future Thinking Initiations, who welcomed the attendees and set the context for the event.
Speakers from the Office of Senator Pia Cayetano, Mr Noel de Guia, resident Futurist of the Senate Committee on Sustainable Development Goals, Innovation and Futures Thinking and the President of Philippine Futures Thinking Society, Dr Pizan P. Calina. They gave their talk around the discussion.
As part of the summit, the Memorandum of Understanding signing for the consortium also happened with the President of five State Universities comprised of Dr Ancheta, Dr Joel P. Limson – NORSU; Dr Joselito B. Gutierrez – CNU; Dr Regucivilla A. Pobar – BISU; and Dr Renalyn B. Bantawig – SSC.
The afternoon session was a round table discussion of each University representative, where they planned and scheduled their future activities in collaboration with other SUCs across the region that accord in Futures Thinking Framework.
Also, Dr Archiebald Baltazar B. Malaki, University Professor, ended the event as he stated his concluding remarks.
