Cebu Technological University (CTU) Proudly Hosts the 4th DPGAA Biennial Convention

Cebu Technological University (CTU) had the distinct honor of hosting the 4th DPGAA Biennial Convention of DOST-PCAARRD Graduate Alumni Association, Inc. This momentous event, held under the theme “DPGAA’s Role in Accelerating Post-Pandemic Recovery in the AANR,” took place on the 25th and 26th of October 2023 at the Cebu Technological University-Main Campus in the vibrant city of Cebu.

In a world characterized by evolving research trends, CTU, a leading institution in the field of science and technology, played a pivotal role in organizing this convention. It provided a dynamic platform for distinguished science and technology experts and academicians with research interests spanning a wide spectrum, particularly focusing on enhancing the production of crops, livestock, aquatic life, and natural resources.

The convention drew an impressive crowd of 156 participants hailing from various regions across the Philippines, including the National Capital Region (NCR), Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, SOCCSKSARGEN, and Caraga.

Dr. Rosein Ancheta Jr., the OIC-President of CTU, graced the event with his presence and delivered a welcoming address that set the tone for the convention. He emphasized the central role played by the DPGAA in accelerating the recovery and rejuvenation of vital sectors in the post-pandemic landscape. “Our theme underscores the pivotal role that the DPGAA plays in accelerating the recovery and rejuvenation of these vital sectors. We will examine strategies, innovations, and best practices that can guide us toward a more resilient, equitable, and prosperous future,” he articulated. The convention, he stressed, was not merely an assembly of professionals but a fertile ground for collaboration and the exchange of ideas that would help shape the policies and practices that define our collective future.

The convention featured plenary speakers and presenters from both the academic and private sectors who shed light on critical issues, emerging trends, and innovative solutions that could address the concerns of Filipino society. Distinguished speakers included Dr. Gerald Glenn Panganiban, Director of the Bureau of Plant Industry (Agriculture); Dr. Casiano Choresca Jr., Center Chief of the Brackishwater Fisheries Research and Development Center and Fisheries Biotechnology Center at NFRDI (Aquatic); and Dr. Nathaniel Bantayan, Vice Chancellor for Research, Development, and Extension (RDE) at UPLB (Natural Resources).

Following the presentations, the board of evaluators announced the winners from the fields of agriculture, aquatic studies, and natural resources. Additionally, the convention gave recognition for the Best Poster, DOST PCAARD Technology Dissemination and Utilization, William D. Dar Research and Development, DPGAA Administration, Posthumous, and Service.

In a further testament to the growth and significance of the DPGAA, October 2023 saw the addition of 52 new members, bringing the total count to an impressive 1,109 members.
