Empowering Communities through Lemon Cookies Production: A Collaborative Initiative by CTU-Tuburan Campus

The Graduate Studies of Cebu Technological University (CTU) – Tuburan Campus, in collaboration with the Food Innovation Center (FIC), held a Community Extension Services event on Lemon Cookies Production from August 16-22, 2024. This program demonstrated the university’s commitment to empowering local communities by fostering sustainable livelihood opportunities through practical skills training. The event focused on producing IPOPHIL-registered Lemon Cookies with Turmeric Powder, aligning with the university’s innovative and community-centered mission.

The program was a hands-on training initiative targeting unemployed housewives and bystander men from Brgy. Cogon and neighboring barangays. Participants learned to produce lemon cookies infused with turmeric powder, promoting food innovation and economic self-reliance. The sessions emphasized inclusivity and community engagement, creating a collaborative and inspiring environment. The event was conducted from August 16-22, 2024, ensuring ample time for theoretical and practical sessions to meet participant needs. The training occurred at the Food Innovation Center (FIC) of CTU-Tuburan Campus, highlighting the university’s role as a hub for innovative practices and grassroots empowerment in Tuburan, Cebu.

The event was spearheaded by Campus Director Dr. Ma. Carla Y. Abaquita, who emphasized the university’s commitment to community service. Dr. Florieza Mangubat, Graduate School OIC-Chair, highlighted the importance of bridging academic expertise and local needs. Key facilitators included Project Planning Specialist Dr. Arliezl D. Mancio, Project Leader Prof. Vicel B. Albaño, FIC staff, and OJT student, whose meticulous planning and hands-on involvement ensured the program’s success.
